What we packed for our 3 week road trip.
I hate to pack! Planning what you may or may not need is stressful and overwhelming and I always forget something. Most of the time I worry about forgetting the little things and end up forgetting an important item, like my cell phone or the snack bag. To try and organize my thoughts on what I might need I jotted down some items for our upcoming road trip and thought I would share some of what we packed and why. Even when we follow our lists, know you will forget something. Sometimes the item we forgot puts us on an adventure we wouldn’t have experienced had it been remembered!
Packing the truck:
1. If it’s a day trip or a three week trip it’s always a good idea to make sure your vehicle is in good travel shape. Get the basics taken care of. Oil change, breaks and tires should all be checked.
2. A full gas can, strapped into the back of the truck bed. Out west the gas stations can become very few and far between. It could be as much as an hour before coming to the next gas station.
3. Jumper cables, because you just never know and they are a good essential item to have on hand.
4. Cooler & Bag of snacks-fill them full of drinks, pre made sandwiches, yogurt, trail mix and granola bars. I get hangry often, so when I’m told it’s gonna be an hour before we get out of a traffic jam before I can eat…..we’ll I will just say its not a pretty situation.
5. Plastic silverware/napkins/wipes:
It’s an awful feeling when you grab your yogurt out of the cooler to find you’re now gonna need to figure out how to drink it because you have nothing to eat it with.
6. Printed Maps or Atlas: cell service in remote areas is slim to none so having a printed map and addresses to your destinations will keep your stress level at bay and you headed in the right direction.
7. Blanket: my husband likes the truck temp around 62(burr), I’m a 74 degree girl all the way. Our truck has duel temperatures, however, it’s not a perfect science. He will still get hot and I’m always cold. Since he’s the designated driver I concede to the 62 degree temp that will keep him alert and both of us alive. I simply put on my fuzzy socks and bundle in a blanket.
8. Audio Books: We love to down load audio books. They really do make our trip feel shorter and driving in remote areas makes radio reception spotty. Having already down loaded audio books keeps us going.
9. Roadside assistance packet:
When you purchase a road side assistance package they never tell you to make sure you have your policy number and contact information with you. Put it in the glove box before heading out.
